Château Pey La Tour - Bordeaux Rosé

AOC Bordeaux

Packshot - Chateau Pey La Tour Rosé - site

To make this Bordeaux rosé, the grapes are awarded the same meticulous care in the vineyard as in the winery. Unlike the classic Bordelais “saignée” vinification method, which consists of “bleeding” grape must originally intended for red wine production, Château Pey La Tour makes rosé wine by direct pressing, whereby the harvested grapes are vinified specifically to produce this rosé wine. The aromatic concentration is thus reinforced in this blush wine. When it comes to varietals, Cabernet Franc is the grape variety of choice, selected for its freshness and structure. In the winery, the focus remains on retaining and promoting aromatic freshness, including prefermentation cold maceration, cool fermentation and ageing on the fine lees or a 3 months period. With its attractive, pale pink appearance, Château Pey La Tour offers a wonderful aromatic freshness  of redcurrant and red berry fruits.

Vinification & Ageing

All the work in the winery focuses on retaining and exposing aromatic freshness, including cold pressing, using inert gas to avoid any oxidation in the must, and vinification in stainless steel tanks, also carried out at low temperature.

Ageing in stainless-steel temperature controlled vats. 3 months on fine lees.

2016 - 2015 - 2014

The vintage

The first half of 2016 will be remembered for being particularly rainy and mild. This was extremely useful in building essential water reserves in the soils, which proved a godsend to the vines in the ensuing period. The sun set in for the long haul mid-June with very dry weather lasting right through to harvest time. The water supplies in the soils, combined with hot, but not excessive temperatures during the day and very cool nights, ensured good fruit development and lovely aromatics during ripening. The blocks of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and to a lesser extent Merlot are specifically cultivated for rose wine at Chateau Pey La Tour. The cool clay and clay-limestone soils promote good aromatics and freshness in the Cabernet grapes in the blend.

Tasting notes

Stunning, very pale tinge to the 2016 vintage.  The lively, fresh bouquet leads to lovely balance on the palate, which is defined by lovely, crunchy fruit and refreshing strawberry-laden flavours.

The vintage

Château Pey La Tour rosé is made using grapes from specifically selected vineyard parcels. Clayey and clay-limestone soils promote enhanced aromatics and lively character in the Cabernet grapes, the predominant varieties in the blend. Summer, with abundant sunshine, notably cool nights and rain in just the right measure, promoted lovely concentrated aromas in the grape skins, and attractively fresh juices. These traits are mirrored in this fruit-scented, refreshing rosé wine.

Tasting notes

« Chateau Pey la Tour Rosé 2015 is very pale pink in appearance. The fresh fruit- scented bouquet bursting with raspberries and cherries, gives way to lovely balance on the palate, which is defined by freshness and fruit character. »

A simple, crisp, strawberry-blond rosé, this wine's red currant flavors and herbal scents place it firmly in Bordeaux. It's a fragrant rosé for pork crepinettes. Thienot USA, San Rafael, CA.

The vintage

Chateau Pey La Tour rosé is made using grapes from specifically selected vineyard parcels. Clay-limestone soils promote enhanced aromatics and lively character in the Cabernet grapes, the predominant varieties in the blend. Cool summer temperatures preserved lively character in the structure of the must, while an exceptionally sunny September promoted perfectly healthy grapes, and also created good synthesis and aromatic concentration in the grape skins. Made using the “rosé de pressée” method, these aromas shine in this fresh and delicately perfumed 2014 vintage.

Tasting notes

“The very attractive appearance of the vintage is once again characterised by its very pale pink hue, tinged with delicate shades of red berries. The same berry fruit character is also mirrored in the lovely aromatic strawberry and redcurrant freshness resulting from the majoring Cabernets in the blend. The Cabernet’s lively character is complemented perfectly by the finesse and richness of the Merlot. Overall, the well-balanced and refreshing wine culminates in an intensely aromatic finish"
