Cellar Selection : The latest vintage from this chateau, owned in the 18th century by Irishman Thomas Barton and now by Dourthe, is dense, striated with tannins as well as concentrated black fruits. A sense of the freshness that comes with the vintage balances the structure. The wine will takesome time to develop fully, so wait until 2023.

A sanguine accent leads off, pulling red currant and pomegranate fruit along as this slowly opens up to reveal more damson plum, tea and iron notes through the end. The focused and pure finish shows mouthwatering cut. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2021 through 2030.

Erobertparker.com

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 le Boscq is a little broody to begin, with notes of tar and new leather over a core of warm red and black currants, mulberries and cedar chest plus hints of menthol and pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a solid frame of grainy tannins and tons of freshness supporting the muscular red and black fruit, finishing with good length.

This is good quality, creamy in texture with ripe fruit that feels ready to drink now but should also age for at least another decade. One of my favourites of this line-up, not hugely concentrated but elegant and highly enjoyable. Carries the vintage well.

Dark cherry red, almost black at the core. Dark, rocky, savoury black fruit with just a touch of oak’s cedary spice. Firm but smooth tannin texture. Excellent balance of fruit and structure. Very St-Estèphe. Dense and generous in its harmony. GV (JH) ( GV= Great Value)

This is a dense wine, packed with tannins. However this youthful concentration does not mask the bold black fruits and good acidity that are also very present. The vineyard surrounds a 19th-century chateau on a high point in Saint-Estèphe. Drink this intense wine from 2024.

Buying Guide : This is both winey, with currant and cherry paste flavors, as well as tangy, with bright iron minerality for spine and a lilac note flitting through. The taut finish has pebbly grip. Not big, but should be fun to watch this mellow slightly with time. Best from 2021 through 2031.

Jeb Dunnuck.com

The 2016 Château Le Boscq a rock star of a Saint-Estephe and offers a concentrated, textured, perfectly balanced profile that’s very much in the style of the vintage. Liquid violets, mint, spring flowers, and blue fruit characteristics all emerge from this medium to full-bodied effort. It has present tannins, yet they’re integrated and polished, and it’s already accessible given its purity and, again, its balance. It should keep for 20 years or so.

Wonderful aromas of crushed, fresh flowers and berries. Fantastic. Full body and round, velvety tannins. Deep and glorious. This delivers way above its price level. A blend of 48 per cent cabernet sauvignon, 47 per cent merlot and five per cent petit verdot.

Vinous Media

The 2016 Le Boscq has a tightly wound bouquet that gradually opens in the glass to reveal black cherries, a hint of sloe jam and crushed violets, all quite pure and attractive. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, a velvety-smooth texture and just a touch of vanilla coming through on the finish.

The Wine Doctor.com

This starts off with a quite modern nose, all dark fruit and smoky oak, the former in the shape of sweet blackcurrants and violet cream, the latter showing a vanilla edge. The palate is fresh, pure, quite broad, texturally very complete, fresh and pure, with plentiful grip buried at the wine's heart, showing in the finish in a rather dry fashion. Overall an attractive style which is quite bold and primary right now and will need some time to come together. 92/100

This is an exceptional vintage for this property, owned by Dourthe Vignobles, who have produced a wine that is showing exceptionally well. It has extremely well controlled fruit extraction shot through with cinammon and black pepper notes, some excellent tension and juicy fruit. Clearly an improvement on the 2015, and a great value pick. 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot.

The estate, owned by Bordeaux negociant Dourthe, is now on excellent form with this structured wine offering concentration and long-term aging. The 2015 Château le Boscq was one of the standout in my Cru Bourgeois tasting and this cuvee comes from a 18-hectare estate in the northern part of the Médoc planted to 48% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with around 4% Cabernet Franc. This beautiful, medium to full-bodied, balanced 2015 offers textbook Saint-Estèphe notes of ripe black fruits, tobacco, and damp earth. It’s not a massive wine by any stretch, yet has terrific purity, density, and length, with nicely integrated acidity.

Wine Advocate

Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois annual tasting, the 2015 Le Boscq offers plenty of blackberry, rasberry and briary scents on the nose, the oak neatly integrated, backward but simply biding its time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite structured but nicely focused with impressive tension on the finish. I would just like a little more on the aftertaste but otherwise, this is a very fine Le Boscq that punches above my expectations from barrel.

Owned by Vignobles Dourthe, with Frederic Bonnaffous as technical director. Dourthe really are delivering enjoyable and drinkable wines across their estates at the moment, and this 18ha property is no exception. There's a touch of reduction on the nose, something that I have found in a few others, but it clears to reveal a finessed and polished wine with pure cassis, black fruits and a note of charcoal. It's well done, with the consumer in mind. 37% new oak.

CELLAR SELECTION. This estate, dating to the 18th century and close to the Gironde estuary, has produced a rich wine. Young tannins and fine fruity acidity are both present in a wine that is serious and dense. Its weight, ripeness and the potential of the black-currant fruit will all allow it to age.

The 2014 Le Boscq is a sleeper for the vintage and shows just how well Saint-Estèphe did in 2014. Château Le Boscq 2014: A pretty cherry stone and blackberry nose, with a touch of confit fruit, with some obvious new-barrel spice and vanilla. There is a lovely creamed-fruit confidence to it. The palate has a medium body, and a sandy-cedary edge to the fruit, but good substance in the middle. Bright acidity and a medium body, nicely composed though, with spicy but ripe tannins, all wrapped up in a very fresh style. Good 16/20

One of the better value wines from St. Estèphe, from a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Petit Verdot, the wine is medium bodied with notes of coffee bean, dark cherries, stone and earth. Round in texture, there is a nice black raspberry sensation in the finish.

Highly recommended : Gorgeous nose with a discreet opulence showing black fruit, cedar and cinnamon spice. Tannins are a bit green but there is good depth and it should turn out well. Rewarding velvety textures and some complexity, it is fresh, alluring and long.

A very reliable cru bourgeois from St.-Estephe, this wine exhibits notes of damp forest floor intermixed with excellent black cherry and black currant fruit. Some hints of camphor and truffle are also present in this medium to full-bodied, well-made wine. It should drink nicely for at least a decade.

Soft and velvety red, with berry, nutmeg and clove character. Fresh acidity. Spicy finish. Delicious already, but better in 2015.

Deep plush crimson. Opulently ripe without being speciously sweet. Very complete and beautifully balanced without losing its communal identity. Well done.

Good depth of fleshy, earthy fruit. A well-made, robust yet elegant wine.

Solid, chunky and rich, with firm tannins, classic blackcurrant fruit, a definite tough edge. Good for aging.

My debut tasting of this estate reveals a complex, solid wine! The saturated ruby-purple color precedes deep perfumes of scorched earth, seared meat, blueberry, mulberry, and some notions of smoke. A fabulously full-bodied, dense, rich mouth with delicious length, ripe black cherries, and mulberry fruit. This is a seamless and lingering Le Boscq that should not be overlooked. It will be a perfect candidate to deliver value, compared to higher classified growths.

This estate is owned by the Dourthe family and sits ona beautiful vineyard sandwiched between Sociando Mallet and Calon Segur. Black currants galore intermixed with some noticeable minerality and loamy soil notes are all present in this blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Petit Verdot. Medium to full-bodied, with moderate tannin.

Crushed blueberry on the nose, with cassis leaf and flowers. Full-bodied, with a lovely silky texture and a medium finish. Layered and attractive.

Rather exotic, ripe dark purple fruits on the nose and an extraordinary register of sweetness on the front palate. Only at the end of the palate does the St-Estèphe austerity kick in. Very unusual! Almost a Jekyll and Hyde of a wine. The drying tannins enforce a long wait but I’m not sure the fruit weight will keep it going that long...

The World of Fine Wine

Very ripe blackberry nose, quite marketed minerality, too, well balanced in a fairly powerful way, with firm St-Estèphe tannins, a lively acidity, and plenty of fruit behind, long and juicy, but certainly in a fairly solid, chewy style, typical, muscular, St-Estèphe, a satisfying fruit bomb but not without finesse, and with very good, sweet fruit and fragrance persistence.

A completely different blend than the 2010 (70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and a whopping 10% Petit Verdot) has given lots of color as well as some firm tannins, a classy, earthy, blue and red fruit-scented nose, medium body and good spice.

Wine Spectator

This fresh, juicy red has a tangy edge supporting its red currant, cherry and plus fruit, laced with light, toasty vanilla. Firms up on a touch on the finish, but still offers solid flesh for the vintage.

**** Highly recommended - Good plummy red and black fruit bouquet. Firm fruit, lovely elegance and vineyard origin. A lovely elegant and aromatic, long finish. Excellent balance.

Barrel sample. Tight tannins, a firm, solid Saint-Estèphe. There are black plum skins, dense fruit, and dark tannins which run right across the wine.

Jancis Robinson.com

Toasty dark fruit, sweetness of oak spice but also an attractive violet note. Full, firm and scented in the middle, both rich and fresh. Moderate length, dry finish.

Mild and green and fresh on the nose. Quite developed. Sweet start. Perhaps not very noble and more advanced than some but a decent glass of northern Médoc, provided you can accommodate the greenness on the finish.

Displays blackberry, light spices and coffee bean. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a dark chocolate and fruit aftertaste. Soft and friendly for the vintage.

**** Higly recommended

Always a good-value property, this has lush fruit, silky texture and good tannic support. Drinkable now but will hold for some years. A bargain 2005.

Savoury and slightly spiced with dark meaty beginnings. Dry fine grip, quite fragrant on the mid palate compared with the nose. Tannins only just ripe on the finish.

The Sunday Times
Il you like French wine, look for the right year for maximum value: 2005 was particularly good, but the wines are still young, so prices are just about affordable. One of my favourites is Château le Boscq from Bordeaux - it's perfect for a really special occasion.
Wine Spectator

Delivers blackberry, licorice and mineral aromas, with just a hint of coffee. Full-bodied, with a velvety texture and a decadent, earthy, very ripe fruit character on the palate. A bite rustic, but interesting.

Space limitations did not allow complete tasting notes for this Cru Bourgeois, but 2005 is the finest vintage for these wines since 1982. The range of scores for these wines should give readers an idea of just how consistent this vintage is at this level. Given the style of the vintage, most of these wines should be accessible young yet evolve for a decade or more because of their concentration and tannic structure.

This is another solid, what you might call “second tier” Saint Estephe 2004. It has a conservative but well defined nose of blackberry, smoke, singed leather and a touch of green leaves. The palate has firm, slightly chewy tannins, lots of dry extract with a hint of soy inflected the slightly austere black fruits. But I like the balance and it has nice weight on the finish. Sturdy and solid. Tasted November 2008.

The 2003's dark ruby/purple color is followed by fleshy red and black cherry notes intertwined with smoky blackberries. This attractive, low acid, soft, fleshy offering should be consumed over the next 4-6 years.

Wine Spectator

Black currant with hints of spices. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins and a simple finish. Best from 2006 through 2009.

Wine Advocate

A solidly made, deep ruby/purple-colored St.-Estephe with chewy, ripe, concentrated fruit, seamlessly-integrated tannin, and low acidity, the 2003 Le Boscq will drink well for 7-8 years.
