N°1, the iconic single varietal Sauvignon blanc by Dourthe, unveils its new label design for summer 2024. The three limited edition “Bassin escapes” designs are guaranteed to transport you on a journey far away.
To underscore the rich local heritage of this historic brand, Dourthe is celebrating the many attractions of the Bordeaux region, in partnership with local watercolour artist Jean-François Dareths. Brand Director Valentin Jestin aims to capture imaginations through a series of iconic images of this magnificent part of the world.
The wine labels, designed specifically for summer, depict three iconic views of the Bassin d’Arcachon, otherwise known as Arcachon Bay, including the white, powdery sands of Dune du Pyla, a traditional Pinasse fishing boat and a fishing village on the Cap Ferret peninsula.
Created in 1987, N°1 has been a pioneering, innovative project from the very outset, borne of its commitment to significantly and durably enhance the profile of Bordeaux white wines. At the request of Jean-Paul Jauffret, the last remaining link with the family, and at the time Dourthe CEO, Patrick Jestin, Denis Dubourdieu and Christophe Ollivier fully embraced the project, and devoted themselves entirely to this exciting venture. And so began a new way of working
with our partner growers, supporting them throughout the process in the quest for uncompromising taste, purity and quality, while drawing on the wealth of experience of Denis Dubourdieu, the ‘Godfather of white wines’.
I like to think that what grows together, goes together, and the harmony of oysters from Archachon Bay and our mineral-laden N°1 Sauvignon Blanc is the finest illustration. We feel an immense sense of pride as this highlights the many different facets of the Bordeaux landscape.

Jean-François Dareths lives and works in Bordeaux and on the Cap Ferret peninsula. Film director and photographer, he has honed a keen eye for detail through his exploration of the image. This in turn led him to painting, in which his ability to capture the moment is immediately apparent. His watercolours captivate the viewer through his delicate style and power of suggestion, to create his charming landscapes. Celebrating a simple, Edenesque beauty, they
evoke contemplation.
N°1: UNCOMPROMISING TASTE
The dedicated team has remained virtually unchanged since its early beginnings. Over the course of a succession of vintages, Patrick Jestin has passed on all his ambitions for this wine to his son Valentin. The terroirs are selected with judicious care, favouring cool, limestone soils in a bid to harness aromatic purity, minerality and elegance.
Two teams work fervently in the vineyard and winery alike and adopt a precision-led approach at every stage. Inspired by the great white wines of Sancerre, N°1 blanc is 100% Sauvignon blanc, of great purity.
N°1 is a highly aromatic wine, packed with unctuous, savoury and mineral character. We have never subscribed to the view that wine should have universal appeal. To have real character, you need a certain style.
