N°1 quality

The Dubourdieu project : uncompromising on taste

To push the boundaries and create the very first dry white wine from Bordeaux at an affordable price, is the ambition that drives Denis Dubourdieu and Dourthe with the creation of N°1.

The N°1 concept came to light in the 1980s. A time in Bordeaux when the great red wines reign supreme, leaving their white counterparts – of dubious quality – languishing in the shadows. From this realisation was born the idea of producing quality white grapes of perfect ripeness.

Backed by research carried out by Denis Dubourdieu, our two teams, together with our select partner growers, work tirelessly in the vineyard and winery alike to bring innovation to this remarkable project.

In addition to the many interventions carried out in the vineyard, new techniques are introduced in the winery to extract the full potential the berries can offer. Inspired by the prestigious white wines of Sancerre, N°1 blanc is made exclusively from Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Another revelation in a world where Semillon is king.

A quest for perfection at every stage

Every step in the development of N°1 wine goes hand in hand with the ambitious undertaking to support our partner growers in the vineyard, all the way through to the precise, detailed selection of quality grapes that will make up N°1.

Nothing is left to chance: meticulous vinification, regular tastings, precise selection of the finest batches, ageing in French oak barrels and even ambitious blending. The quest for the utimate wine is evident at every stage.

Our history

Since 1988, N°1 de Dourthe has known a rich history crowned with many successes: the media and industry professionals are unanimous in this regard.

After a promising start for the white wine, its red and rosé counterparts are released several decades down the line. More recently, the N°1 collection sees further expansion, offering wine enthusiasts qualty wines from iconic Bordeaux appellations, from Médoc to Saint-Emilion, in an uncompromising quest for flavour.
