Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac

The 2024 Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac is a very good wine from a property that has been inconsistent. Dark red-toned fruit, blood orange, new leather, cinnamon and dried flowers lend notable aromatic complexity. Hints of pomegranate and spice develop with time in the glass. There's more than enough depth to make me think the 2024 has the potential to turn out quite well.

This, too, is very well-made. More red berry fruited than most with a subtle sprinkling of sweet spice and very authentic and true to its terroir, as it true really now with all of the Dourthe wines. I find this pure, precise and quite linear on the palate. It balances the challenges of the vintage well to produce a wine that will drink well young but which also holds decent aging potential too.

The silky, delicate texture leaves no trace of excess tannins, and such smoothness is a rare find in the 2024 vintage of Saint-Emilion. What’s even more surprising is that it’s not only smooth in texture but also offers a similarly graceful aroma: the scent of red cherries and plums is playful and lively, and with the naturally high acidity of the 2024 vintage, it lightly sketches a picture of elegance and poise. In my view, this wine’s quality rivals that of a “great vintage.” If you appreciate this lively style, make sure to try it soon.

Un nez tendre, onctueux, vivant, puis, en bouche, un fruit pulpeux et éclatant, soutenu par une texture accrocheuse, minérale, qui donne envie de lécher le haut du palais. Un vin équilibré.

Dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, broad rim brightening. Delicately herbal and savoury plum fruit, a hint of cherry, candied orange zest. Juicy, red cherry, subtle sweetness, lingers, a finely spiced companion at the table.

Le nez offre de la fraicheur, une petite minéralité racée, un fruit pulpeux ainsi qu’une bonne définition. On y retrouve des notes de mûre pulpeuse, de violette et plus légèrement de cassis charnu associées à des touches de framboise écrasée, à une pointe de petits fruits rouges assez mûrs/écrasés ainsi qu’à de fines pointes de bâton de réglisse et à une très discrète pointe séveuse. La bouche offre du fruit, de la minéralité, une trame fraiche, de l’énergie, du moelleux, une fine crémosité ainsi qu’une jolie petite fraicheur (qui enrobe). En bouche ce vin exprime des notes de mûre juteuse/pulpeuse, de cassis écrasé et plus légèrement de petits fruits rouges éclatants/brillants associées à une fine touche de bergamote, de sauge, d’épices douces et à une fine pointe de chocolaté. Les tannins sont moelleux, gourmands et sapides. Bonne longueur. Une fine salinité et pointe florale en fond. Un bon travail sur les bons amers.

Au niveau de la fraîcheur, le millésime a été parfaitement respecté, grâce à une vendange adéquate et ce qu’il faut de longueur.
