Tasting notes
Château Pey La Tour 2021 shows attractive ruby red colour with garnet hints. The rich bouquet develops notes of fresh, ripe fruits (raspberries and fresh blackberries). Initially round on the palate, the wine reveals a juicy and aromatic palate, underpinned by delicate tannins. The well-balanced wine reveals fruity note and culminates in a savoury and fresh finish.
The vintage
From a grower’s perspective, 2021 will remain etched on our memories as a particularly demanding vintage. After a mild, rainy winter, spring was cold with four episodes of devastating frost. It felt like summer would never happen, marked by cool temperatures and rain, and recording the lowest hydric deficit in the last twenty years. A narrow 4-week window of dry, sunny weather towards the end of summer nevertheless brought a positive turnaround, promoting good phenolic ripeness and an increase in anthocyanin concentration. The harvest was late and punctuated by short, rainy spells. 2021 is along the lines of classic Bordeaux vintages, and a nod to the wine styles of old.
