Château Belgrave

Juicy and lively, supple and fleshy with a strawberry juice vein – a little chalky still on the mid-palate – just losing some of the initial vibrancy but this has lots of tannin presence with a long, salty, cola grip. I like the depth and the frame, this is one that will benefit from ageing. Cool wild blueberry notes on the nose. Fully tannic but bouncy and soft, really cushioning with blueberry. I like the purity and focus, it’s a little light in terms of persistence but there’s balance and it'll round out.

Deep plum colour, clear intensity and juice, this has the slate and graphite texture of the Left Bank coupled with well handled and impressive crayon, graphite, and cassis character. Harvest September 3 to 19. 32% new oak. Tasted twice, clear austerity that is consistent with an En Primeur sample.

The stars here are, perhaps unremarkably, the impressive duo of Haut-Médoc classed growths that are La Lagune and Cantemerle; their revivified competitors, Belgrave and notably the best wine produced at La Tour Carnet that I have ever tasted; and the now habitual stars of Moulis, Branas Grand Poujeaux, and of the northern Médoc, G d’Estournel.   Highlights in 2025   Star turns: Château Belgrave (Haut-Médoc) 92-94

Chateau Belgrave 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot nez frais de cassis et cerise, juteux avec un tactile fin, le tanin se positionne entre grain de graphite et sapidité. Salivation, digeste, boisé grainé. 93

Il faudra lui donner un peu de temps pour qu'il exprime.

Un certain charme dans ce velouté aromatique où le cassis et la violette jouent une jolie partition en duo. Équilibre impeccable de la matière qui se déroule sur un fuselage de tanins feutré. La finale bien fraîche et enlevée finit de dessiner un Belgrave d’une jolie buvabilité, sans renier le fond.

A precise and characterful wine with aromas of black currants, black cherries and crushed stones. Medium-bodied with a juicy finish. Terrific wine.

The 2025 Belgrave is impressive. Aromatic, deep and layered, Belgrave has so much to offer. Blue-toned fruits, lavender, espresso and chocolate are front and center. The 2025 is juicy but quite structured. It appears to have a very bright future. Floral overtones extend the nuanced finish. Tasted two times.   A Bordeaux's Under-the-Radar gem. One of my favorite overachievers of the year, wines I would be thrilled to own, that offer exceptional quality, character and value.

In Château Belgrave 2025, a rare harmony emerges between the natural concentration of a high-density vintage and a gentle approach to extraction. Within its expansive structure, every detail is finely refined, most notably the powdery tannins, which spread across the palate with a cocoa-like finesse, instantly bringing clarity and lift to the overall framework. At the same time, direct and generous notes of rose, black cherry, and sour plum intertwine, combining ripeness with the tension that comes from vibrant acidity. Accents of dried herbs and cardamom spice further shape the wine’s profile, giving the tasting a clear sense of rhythm and progression.

The 2025 Belgrave reveals an attractive bouquet of dark berries, cassis, mulberries and spice, becoming more floral with aeration. Medium- to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, it’s structured and tannic, with good length, concluding with a gently lead pencil–inflected finish. The gravelly terroir asserts itself more clearly than in recent vintages, lending the wine added finesse and a more defined mineral edge.

Deep dark ruby garnet, opaque core, violet reflections, delicate rim brightening. Blackberry confit, nuances of cassis and black cherries, subtle hints of precious wood, some nougat underneath.
